According to legend, during the Saracen invasion in the 8th century, the monks of the Montagne de Lure pursued the beautiful Moorish daughters that a knight had brought home from a crusade. As a punishment, the brothers were turned to stone on the spot by St. Donatus, where they still do penance today.
