The town hall in Haugesund was a gift from the shipowner Knut Knutsen OAS and his wife Elisabeth. The town hall was designed by the architects Gudolf Blakstad and Herrmann Munthe-Kaas and inaugurated in 1931. The town hall square was inaugurated in 1949. In September 2010, the town hall was named the most beautiful town hall in the country.
