    Another cylindrical Tipperary castle, thought to date from the 1300s, but more likely to be much later, as it has many classic tower house features.

    A Butler castle, built on an island, in the middle of the River Suir, it guarded an important river crossing, the crossing is still in use to this day.

    It was described as “in ruins” circa 1840, however a Du Noyer sketch from that date, shows it to be largely intact, though roofless and with some serious structural cracks. It subsequently suffered a huge collapse. The current remains look rather precarious from certain angles.
