Built during the second half of the 19th century, the property was initially named "Mesnil Gency". Its location corresponds to the former vegetable garden of the 18th century Château de Vauréal, which extended as far as Gency.

This beautiful bourgeois stone residence on the banks of the Oise is nestled in a green setting, on the edge of a 5-hectare wooded park. Anne and Gérard Philipe were immediately won over by the house, the park and the view of the river and acquired it in 1954.

    Gérard Philipe
Gérard Philipe (1922-1959), an iconic actor of post-war cinema in France, began his career in 1942 with the hit play "Une grande fille toute simple". The same year, he met Anne, his future wife. His most famous films include "Le diable au corps" (1947), "La chartreuse de Parme" (1948), "La beauté du diable" (1950) and "Fanfan la tulipe" (1952). He participated in the creation of the Syndicat Français des Acteurs in 1956 and contributed to the establishment of the intermittent entertainment system. His sudden death in 1959 caused deep emotion in France.

    Anne Philipe
Anne Philipe (1917-1990), born Nicole Navaux, was a French woman of letters, filmmaker and ethnologist. In 1955, she published "Caravane d'Asie" and made documentary films on Asia and Africa. Married to the actor Gérard Philipe in 1951, she became his assistant and encouraged him to join the TNP and Jean Vilar. Until her death in 1990, the writer published numerous works such as "Le Temps d'un soupir" (1963), "Les Rendez-vous de la colline" (1966) and "Ici, là-bas, ailleurs" (1974).

The Philipe couple stayed in this house for 6 years, until the sudden death of Gérard Philipe, on November 25, 1959. Sold to the State in 1973, to the Public Development Establishment in 1990, and to the city of Cergy in 2000, the property hosts exhibitions and cultural events.

During the summer of 2024, a guinguette was installed in the park around the house.
