Typical Alpine lake of modest size but with clear water.
Excellent place to take a break and cool off (in the summer).
Smaller in size than its bigger brother located just above

Lake Val Asinina is one of the wildest and most fascinating places in the Bergamo Orobie mountains, located above Schilpario in the Scalve Valley. Less frequented than nearby Lake Valbona, this alpine lake lies at approximately 2,150 meters above sea level, nestled in a rocky basin dominated by the Cima di Val Asinina and Mount Poiat.

Reaching it is an intense and rewarding hiking experience. The most direct route starts from the Vivione Pass, following the CAI 415A trail, which winds through mountain pines, rhododendrons, and high-altitude pastures. Alternatively, you can start from Schilpario, climbing the CAI 415 trail to the Laghetti delle Valli, and from there detour towards the Forcella di Val Asinina, which connects Lake Valbona to Lake Val Asinina.

The landscape is stark and majestic: the small lake reflects the surrounding rock faces and the clear sky, creating an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. The silence is broken only by the wind and the calls of alpine fauna, with marmots and chamois populating the nearby ridges. The area is perfect for experienced hikers, nature photographers, and lovers of authentic mountain scenery.

From the lake, you can continue toward Cima di Val Asinina (2,470 m), along a panoramic ridge with some technical sections, or complete a loop that includes Monte Gaffione and Monte Busma, for a complete hike of about 8 hours and 1,700 meters of elevation gain.

Lake Val Asinina is more than just a hiking destination: it is a place that invites contemplation, slowness, and listening to the mountain. A small, hidden paradise, where nature reigns supreme and every step tells a story of stone, water, and silence.
