      The clock tower was built in 1667 by order of Sultan Mahmud. During the Turkish rule it represented the main city gates. In its arcade there is a sculpture of the Madonna (the Black Madonna, since it was built of burned wood) commemorating the city's founder, Tvrtko I Kotromanic, and in the form of a bas-relief of Afran Hodzic from Sarajevo. The clock on the tower was replaced by an electric clock in 1995 and was a gift from the town of Zemun.
