The Muiden West Battery is an artillery bastion that was built as part of Amsterdam's defense line, but was soon considered militarily obsolete after its completion. Unfortunately, it can only be viewed from the outside.

The West Battery was designed to protect the harbor mouth and the sea locks. At the end of the 19th century, the harbor entrance was further secured with the construction of the fortress island of Pampus opposite, a special part of Amsterdam's defense line.

A beautiful blend of old and new architecture. Anyone looking to cool off can do so easily on the small beach.
