The church was built as a flat-roofed three-aisled basilica in the Italianizing neo-Romanesque forms of Potsdam coinage in the years 1846-1849 by Friedrich August Stüler according to the plans of Ludwig Persius. The predecessor building, a half-timbered church built in 1792-1794 according to the plans of the land architect Johann Christian Friedrich Keferstein, burnt down in 1840.
