The Chartreuse de Montmerle in Lescheroux was originally a Benedictine priory dependent on the abbey of Joug-Dieu in Beaujolais.
In the middle of the 17th century, the monastery was rebuilt in La Teppe, a less unhealthy place in Bresse.
The Chartreuse de Montmerle was renowned for being the most beautiful and largest of the eight houses in Bresse and Bugey.
His power and wealth were considerable. Sold as national property during the Revolution, it was completely destroyed.
Only the lower part of the old bossed façade of the entrance and its two wings remains.
