The Batthyány castle is located in Bicské, Fejér county. (Kossuth u. 42.) The castle was built by Count Lajos Batthyány, the last national palatine of Hungary, in 1754-1755. It was expanded around 1770 at the initiative of Archbishop József Batthyány, and the design of the house chapel belonging to the castle is also attributed to him. The castle was designed by József Hild. Batthyány Tivadar, the king's personal minister, remodeled it between 1796 and 1799 in late Baroque and Coraclassicist style. The building is a U-shaped, two-story castle with 64 rooms. During the 1848 revolution and war of independence, this building housed the headquarters of three consecutive Austrian commanders. In the Second World War, it served as a German and then a Hungarian military hospital. An anecdote is also linked to the castle building in Bicske: in 1921, a guest room was prepared for Queen Zita in the east wing. That's when IV tried. King Charles to return to the throne. In the end, the royal couple did not stay here because they did not want to be caught in a Batthyány castle in the event of an unsuccessful attempt, and therefore the names Habsburg and Batthyány would be mentioned together. In the second half of the 19th century, Jenő Brachfeld and then Adolf Wolfinger became the owners of the castle and estate. In 1897, Henrik Rosenfeld inherited the castle. In 1912, Countess Zsuzsanna Károlyi acquired the estate, who married Count Gyulafestőművész Batthyány. Thus, the building became Batthyány Castle again. In 1928, the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labor bought the castle, and then handed it over to the Székez capital for free use. The city of Budapest established a mother and infant protection institute in the building, and a children's home has been operating there since 1929. Currently owned by the Hungarian state, it is used free of charge by the Metropolitan Municipality, and the Kossuth Zsuzsa Children's Home operates in the castle. An institutional history exhibition can be viewed in the hall of the castle. Here you can see pictures, documents and educational history interesting things from the time of the orphanage. Queen Elisabeth and Ferenc József's silver quill and crystal inkstand are kept here. The Batthyány memorial exhibition is located in the western wing of the castle. Among the Batthyány relics, we find Lajos Batthyány's chair and cradle. Many paintings by Count Gyula Batthyány can be seen here.
