The Palace in Otok is a neo-Gothic residence of particularly high artistic quality, designed by a famous Berlin architect.
History
The first information about a settlement called "Otok" appears in 1224 in the location charter of the Norbertine monastery from Trzebiatów, which was then located in Wyszków. In later documents, the place is called "Woitke", "Wotiś" and "Woedtke". According to the available literature, Otok was already the seat of an influential knightly family in the Middle Ages. According to historical sources, in 1277 the knight Dobiesław of Otok (Dobislaw de Wotisch) with Slavic roots founded the town of Płoty under Lübeck law. He also began building a huge castle in the northern part of the present-day town, which he did not complete (the impressive city walls have been preserved). Unfortunately, Dobiesław's success story came to an abrupt end around 1283 under unclear circumstances during the Pomeranian-Brandenburg War. However, it seems that his heirs still lived in Otok.
