Dolceacqua is an Italian municipality in the province of Imperia in Liguria with 2,145 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2022). The place is about 10 km north of Ventimiglia in Val Nervia. The neighboring municipalities are Airole, Apricale, Breil-sur-Roya, Camporosso, Isolabona, Perinaldo, Rocchetta Nervina, San Biagio della Cima and Ventimiglia. The village is overlooked by the “Castello dei Doria”. In 1270 the Counts of Ventimiglia sold the castle and estate of Dolceacqua to Oberto Doria of Genoa, whose family owned it until 1942. During the War of the Austrian Succession, the castle was destroyed by French and Spanish troops in 1744, and an earthquake in 1887 caused the ruins to partially collapse. The Doria took up residence in the Palazzo Doria and the Palazzo Doria Garoscio.
