The Mariengrotte is rough and simple. A cave carved into the rock, an iron lantern cage swinging from the ceiling. Two dark wooden benches with books stacked on them.

The St. Virgilius Church, parish church of Rattenberg, also includes a cave dedicated to Mary. Marian grottos are often built to commemorate certain events or apparitions of the Virgin Mary, including as a votive offering. They repeatedly become the destination of local pilgrimages.
