The Atonement Cross is listed in the list of cultural monuments in Baden-Württemberg by the State Office for Monument Preservation in the Stuttgart administrative district: "Schuhmicheles Cross, Atonement Cross made of sandstone with carvings
Knife and a shoe sole on the front and a spade
on the back, early 16th century."
One of the various stories reports that a shoemaker killed a shepherd who was lying in wait for him in self-defense, whereupon the shepherd's dog killed the shoemaker.
