Branch church of St. James the Elder

The church resembles a castle complex in the middle of Süssenbach. The hall church was built in the 14th century and redesigned in Baroque style after the middle of the 18th century.
In 1883 the church burned down and the bell from 1478 was damaged, which then had to be recast. Today the 32.19 meter high tower houses four bells.
The church consists of a nave, which was expanded in 1948 and covered with a gable roof, a retracted, just closed choir in the east and a facade tower in the west, which was expanded in 1883 with a floor with rounded corners that houses the tower clock and the belfry was covered with a pyramid roof.
The interior of the nave is covered with a flat ceiling with a cove, and that of the choir with a barrel vault. The ceiling painting in the choir with the Transfiguration of the Lord and in the nave with the beheading of James the Elder was created by Matthias Schiffer in 1785.
The church furnishings include a high altar, which is flanked by two columns. James the Elder is depicted on its altarpiece. The high altarpiece comes from the Cham baroque painter Ignaz Anton Sollfleisch. Next to the side passages are the statues of Simon Peter and Judas Thaddeus. The pulpit, decorated with rocaille and featuring the Eye of Providence on the sound cover, dates from the 18th century.
