Giuseppe "Geppe" Della Valle III, great champion of Bologna and the Italian national team, was the younger brother of a dynasty of footballers: Guido Della Valle, pioneer of football and one of the founders of Bologna, an artillery officer who died in 1915 during the first world War; Mario Della Valle, also a talented striker for Bologna between the years 1910 and 1920. Graduated in engineering, Giuseppe Della Valle worked at the independent social housing institute, often shuttling between Bologna and Parma. A very polite person, he often gave the impression of being a little detached, not very communicative. He had a strong disagreement with Pietro Genovesi, midfielder for Bologna and the national team: the two did not speak to each other in private life, but in football terms there was great mutual respect and admiration. His family was of noble origins.
