Maria Rain is a really picturesque place where you can find all sorts of little but really nice highlights if you take a look around. So it is worthwhile, for example, to cycle to the Schnakenhöhe in the west of the village: the view from here is simply intoxicating. Worth seeing is also the magnificent pilgrimage church Hl. Kreuz from the 15th century. In the nearby Wertach Gorge, you can find traces of coal mining. Here coal was mined between 1919 and 1923, which is still reminiscent of the reconstruction of the entrance to the tunnel.

Maria Rain was first mentioned in documents in 927. In the Middle Ages, Maria Rain was an important religious place, which was reinforced by the construction of the parish church. The church was first mentioned in the 15th century and developed into a place of pilgrimage. On a hill, in the immediate vicinity of the pilgrimage church, the so-called Kaiserhütte was built in 1907 as a shelter for Emperor Franz Joseph I, who watched his army's maneuvers in the Rosental from here.

The small community offers a charming rural atmosphere and beautiful natural landscapes. Anyone who appreciates the peace of nature and the scenic beauty of the surrounding area has come to the right place. Maria Rain is idyllically situated on a hill. Thanks to this elevated location, Maria Rain offers numerous vantage points from which you can overlook the Rosental and the Karawanks. The Rupertiberg is particularly popular. There is a place to stop for a refreshment. Maria Rain is definitely worth a visit, the effort of the climb is rewarded!
