    Knox Mountain is a local favorite and hidden gem nestled within the expansive 4,000-acre Vernon S. Walker Wildlife Management Area, which also home to Abbott Mountain just south of here. Although the trail lacks blazes or markings, it is easily to get to the summit of this ~800 foot mountain. The main trail up begin from Water Street/Route 11 near 520 Water Street in West Newfield and is clearly marked by a sign for the state's wildlife management area. This trailhead is quite small so be prepared to carpool! The wide trail begins between two fields in the trees. After passing through a forest and over small stream via a footbridge, you cross a dirt road to continue on the trail. After passing a stone wall the trail begins to get more steep as you climb to an open summit with panoramic views. The total length of the trail to the summit is about 1 mile, but if you wish to add a little extra milage to your hike, there is a westward trail (marked as a Dead End) that provides an alternative view over farmland before the summit.
