St. Helena is a small volcanic island in the South Atlantic. Together with the island of Ascension and the Tristan da Cunha archipelago, it forms the British overseas territory of the same name. With around 123 square kilometers, St. Helena is one of the small islands and is comparable in size to Sylt.
It is the perfect travel destination for globetrotters, explorers and nature lovers. Breathtaking nature and a lot of history make the remote island in the South Atlantic an insider tip.
St. Helena has a temperate, subtropical climate all year round. The best time to travel for pleasantly warm temperatures and little precipitation is from December to March. The most rain falls in April, June and July.
Over 1,000 miles from the African mainland and almost 2,000 miles from South America - the small island is probably one of the most remote parts of the world. However, one historical event made St. Helena famous worldwide: Napoleon Bonaparte was banished here in 1815 and lived in exile on St. Helena for five years until his death.
