The Casera Rio Nero is a shelter located at the head of the Rio Nero valley, a tributary of the Resia stream, in the Julian Prealps Park. It is always open and unattended, with 15 beds and a fireplace. The path that follows the Rio Nero crosses a ravine with metal cables and walkways, and from the dairy you can go up to Monte Cuzzer following the CAI path 707.

The Rio Nero Shelter is located at an altitude of 870 meters in the upper part of the Rio Nero valley, surrounded by the high peaks of the Julian Prealps, including the peaks of Mount Musi, Mount Lavara, and Mount Cuzzer.

The structure, currently a two-story shelter open 24/7, is in excellent condition and offers several beds and a wood-burning stove.

It can be reached from the Resia Valley via CAI trail no. 703 from Tigo in 2.5 hours, or CAI trail nos. 703-707 from the hamlet of Lischiazze in about 2 hours.

- Water: non-potable, but available depending on seasonal weather conditions
- Wood-burning stove
- Firewood: readily available nearby.

Shelters are a valuable asset to our area, providing hikers with a convenient base for trekking. When using the shelter, it is important not to leave any traces of your presence, so we recommend:

- Do not leave food easily accessible to mice and other animals;
- Clean common areas;
- Take all waste down the valley.

This shelter is always open and unmanaged. Its maintenance is managed by the Park Authority with the essential contribution of local volunteers and all users!
