The Johannes de Doper Church in Den Burg is an important, iconic neo-Romanesque church with a tower.

The Roman Catholic church was plundered by the Sea Beggars in 1572.

Afterward, a separate church was built here in 1573.

In 1862-1863, the Romanesque pseudo-basilica church was built,
with a partially built-in tower, designed by Th. Molkenboer.

The foundation stone was laid on March 26, 1863.

In July 1863, it received a new bell and the first mass was held on Christmas Day.

The construction chaplain was Leonardus Levisse.

There are three chandeliers in the church.

Two of them date from the 17th century.

In 1912, it was expanded with a transept and a new choir, thus becoming
Texel's main Roman Catholic church. After 1945, two stained-glass windows were installed in the church.

One depicts a ship sailing from Oudeschild.

This window was installed in gratitude for the return of the Texel men deported during the war.

The other window depicts the birth, sermon, and beheading of John the Baptist.

The bell, dedicated to John the Baptist, was made in 1948 by Petit & Fritsen in Aarle-Rixtel. Its lower diameter is 98 cm.

It is noteworthy that this beautiful church does not yet have official monument status.
