It is certain, however, that in 1556 Conrad von Rohr, then-master of Freyenstein, started construction of a three-wing castle complex - today called the castle - in the eastern part of the park. The executive architect was Dominicus Parr, son of a prestigious Italian builder family. Parr planned the building in the style of the Renaissance. The terracotta was made in the workshop of the Lübeck artist Statius von Düren.
