The approximately four-acre Fünfhufenteich is located between Ottendorf-Okrilla, Lomnitz, Wachau and Seifersdorf in Saxony. It is located on the course of the Orla and its tributary Saugraben.
The name indicates five agricultural goods, so-called hooves, which used to border the pond. In the Topographical Atlas of the Kingdom of Saxony (1841-1843) by Jacob A. H. Oberreit, the adjacent forest is listed as the 5 hooves. Passing the pond runs the long-distance hiking route Lausitzer Schlange. The Fünfhufenteich is a designated surface natural monument.
The Fünfhufenteich is part of the European protected area Natura 2000 (belonging to the FFH protected area river system Kleine Röder and Orla) and is thus subject to strict nature conservation provisions.
Around the pond are some species-rich fresh meadows (FFH habitat type lowland meadows [4]), which are partly used as grazing land. The shore areas are densely overgrown with reeds. The real worm fern is also found on the shore. Numerous deciduous tree species grow around the five-pound pond, including pedunculate oaks, birches, hornbeams, black alder, sycamore maple, maple, red oak and ash. Partially reach the oak tree trunk diameter of over 1.50 meters and considerable heights.
At the inlet of the Fünfhufenteiches grows the neophyte to be classified sun hat.
The Fünfhufenteich is a body of water of the German Anglers Association and serves mainly for carp. Fishing is prohibited. Due to the finding of footprints the otter was detected at the five-pound pond. In the undergrowth around the pond, the forest mouse can be found. Water frogs and various dragonflies are native in and around the pond.
