The Roman road Via Claudia Augusta and Via Salina (Salzburg-Kempten) crossed at the level of the current Lech bridge. The Lorenzberg, located next to the bridge - a rocky spur in the Lech loop - was built as early as 14 AD. occupied by the Romans to secure the Lech crossing. The civilian settlement of Abodiacum, the predecessor of today's Epfach, was built near the military station.
