The Church Museum in Franconia

is the first church museum in the area of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria and provides insight into the history, traditions and forms of Franconian Protestantism. Embedded in the historical furnishings of the church, a permanent exhibition on the ground floor uses various testimonies to convey the history of the Reformation, subsequent denominationalization and religious wars. Further exhibits explain the sacramental acts and worship customs in the Protestant church. The journey through church history continues on the first gallery. The forms of pietism in Franconia are shown using striking examples and the developments of the 19th and 20th centuries are taken up, namely the emergence of the regional church and the beginnings of diakonia and mission. The role of Franconian Protestantism in National Socialism is also not left out. The original Steinmeyer organ from 1888 on the second gallery makes the rich musical tradition of the Protestant service visible and from time to time also audible. In addition, the diversity of church music life is revealed using other instruments and numerous audio examples. Finally, the path leads over the modern staircase extension on the outer facade of the church up through the tiled roof shell into the roof of the hospital church. Here you can admire the high art of the carpenters both on the original roof structure from the 15th century and on numerous models. The contents of the permanent exhibition are supplemented and deepened by constantly changing special exhibitions, guided tours, lectures and educational programs.

The church and the hospital next to it originally go back to a foundation from a citizen in 1318. The church itself was repeatedly rebuilt. Unfortunately it wasn't open for us.
