The village of Salegast is located southeast of the castle hill. It was also surrounded by a wall that is still partially preserved today. The village is mentioned in documents in 1285 and 1295 as Salgast and in 1360 as Salegast. In 1287 the place was referred to as a church village. Today only a few walls of the old local church remain.

It was a small, towerless building made of rubble and field stone. During a structural expansion around 1500, a stone cross was built into the apse. The news persists that there is an underground passage from the church under the Mulde to the former monastery in Muldenstein.

With the decline of the town, the church was desecrated. During the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) it served as an emergency church when the one in Jeßnitz could not be used.
