Széchenyi statue

In a prominent place on Városház tér stands the robust statue of István Széchenyi, which was inaugurated on October 23, 1994. The monumental work is the work of Miklós Melocco. The statue's creation was supported by a public fundraising campaign launched in 1988.

Széchenyi visited Miskolc three times. He was a great supporter of the city's cultural life and made a significant financial contribution to the construction and maintenance of the theater. The main street in the city center has been named after him since 1861.

The statue shows the elderly István Széchenyi. The work is made of Süttő stone and István Széchenyi's signature can be read on the side.
