A gust of wind from the sea, Berum Castle lies hidden behind tall trees.
When you go through the castle gate, you find yourself at one of the most important
sites in East Frisian history. The Syrtza chiefs lived here around 1310. Their inheritance was inherited by the first Count of East Frisia,
Ulrich Circsena von Greetsiel, who built a moated castle here.
From this, the following generations developed into the most
magnificently furnished castle in East Frisia (1665).
It subsequently became the widow's residence of the East Frisian royal family.
The daughter of the famous King Gustav Wasa, Princess Katharina
of Sweden, widow of the East Frisian Count Edzard II, also once lived here.
Unfortunately, not all heirs deserve an honorable memory! Under Frederick the Great
Berum Castle was demolished and its valuable inventory auctioned off, but the mighty outer bailey with tower and gate remained.
With a keen sense for the special atmosphere of this historic place, the
von Oppeln-Bronikowski family has now set up comfortable holiday apartments here,
which offer comfort and relaxation.burgberum.de

Only the imposing outer bailey of the medieval castle has been preserved. The corresponding, extensive wooded area invites you to take long walks.
