Horstmarer See, located in the Lünen Seepark north of Dortmund, is around nine hectares in size and borders directly on the Datteln-Hamm Canal. It was renatured and created for the State Garden Show in 1996 from a former mining area and agricultural land. The lake, which is not normally fed by the canal, provides access in the event of water loss.
