The castle Albeck was the center of the rule of the noble gentlemen of Albeck. The Lords of Albeck founded an Augustinian monastery in Steinheim am Albuch. Later, the rule came to the Counts of Werdenberg (line Werdenberg-Albeck).
The counts of Werdenberg sold the "city" Albeck in 1383 to the imperial city of Ulm, which incorporated the town into its land area. Albeck was the seat of a higher office of the city of Ulm. After the Battle of Nördlingen burned the victorious imperial troops in 1635 Albeck down. In the War of Spanish Succession French and Bavarian troops destroyed 1704 the castle Albeck.
