From here you have a wonderful view of the Ohm valley. The Vogelsberg and thus also the Amöneburg emerged 27 million years ago as an extension of the largest volcanic area in Central Europe. The strong gravel deposits in Ohmtal and Lahntal all the way down to the Giessen area do not come from the Vogelsberg, but from the Rothaargebirge. The Ur-Lahn flowed through today's Ohmtal until the Amöneburg was built and brought the gravel with it to our region. The Vogelsberg consists of basalt stone and the origin of the Rothaargebirge is sandstone.
