The castle, which was already mentioned in the 13th century, was originally a moated castle. The moat around the castle, which was fed by the Mombeek and a neighboring spring, was filled in in the 19th century, except for the current pond. The castle was heavily damaged during the wars in the second half of the 16th century. From the 17th century to the 19th century, the castle was increasingly converted into a castle farm without a military function.

The castle is a U-shaped building. The facade is partly in Maasland Renaissance style. There is a gate tower with constricted needle spire between the living quarters and the stables. The lower part of this gate tower is in limestone and dates from the early 17th century; the rest in brick and is 18th century. There is also a statue built in here, the origin of which is unknown. The house dates from 1619 and is the oldest part of the current castle.
