Historically first forestry school in West Africa. Located in Banco National Park. Beautiful architecture that blends harmoniously into the surrounding nature. Very quiet place not far from the noisy big city. Founded in 1938, at the same time as that of Bouaké, the Banco Forestry School is located in the heart of the Banco National Park and covers an area of 12 Ha excluding the Arboretum and the Fish Farming Station.

Under the supervision of French West Africa (AOF) since its creation, it was called École Forestière de l'AOF. Article 2 of the General Decree of 15/12/1940 stipulated that the Forestry School of the AOF has the mission “to train Forestry Assistants for the various Colonies of the Federation”.

On April 1, 1959, it was bequeathed to the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire by Order No. 3096. Thus, from 1938 to 1985, the Forestry School of Banco and that of Bouaké trained many technical agents for water and forests. Moreover, with the need to train middle managers for the conservation of the forest estate, from 1962 to 1973, the Banco Forestry School (parent school) was entrusted, on its own, with the training of Water Monitors and Forests. This training lasted only one year. From 1973, the training of the Monitors was entrusted to the Forestry School of Bouaké while that of the Assistants of Water and Forests was done at Banco. This marked the end of the annexation of the School of Bouaké, thus making it autonomous but in close collaboration with that of Banco (IG/AA of March 31, 1959) and changing its name to be called École Forestière du Banco.

In 1985, all forestry training was transferred to Bouaké, following the renovation and extension of the École Forestière de Bouaké.

In 1992, the renovated site of the Forestry School of Bouaké was requisitioned for the creation of the public University of the said city. Since this requisition to date, forestry training, technicians (Vegetal and Animal Production Monitors) and senior technicians (Vegetable and Animal Production Assistants) of water and forests, has returned to the Banco Forestry School. When the National Institute for Professional Agricultural Training (INFPA) came into being, forestry training took place at three different sites: the School of Wildlife and Protected Areas (EFAP) in Bouaflé; the Forestry School of Banco and the School of Specialization in Fish Farming and Fishing in Continental Waters (ESPPEC) first in Bouaké and currently in Tiébissou. Currently, it is only done at the Banco. The people trained at the École Forestière du Banco, originally much more numerous and a little less in recent years, are nationals of: Gabon, Guinea, Burkina-Faso (formerly Upper Volta), Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Chad, Togo and of course Côte d'Ivoire.

It should be noted that the Banco Forestry School site has remained the same while the Bouaké School has sometimes been relocated. From 1938 to 1959, it was located between the Central Sub-prefecture and the Crédit de Côte d'Ivoire; from 1959 to 1963, she ended up at the Mental Health Center in N'Gattakro; finally, from 1963 to 1992, it returned to its original location. infpa.org/esf-banco
