Piazza della Libertà is a square in Salerno located in the Santa Teresa area, designed by the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill. For the project, the main objective was set to "create a new image and identity of the urban port front: the definitive opening of the city to the sea", through the recovery of the visual and functional relationship with the surrounding body of water, the pedestrian connection with the neighboring areas and the relationship with the main architectural emergencies, such as the Verdi theatre, the Villa Comunale and the Palazzo di Città. The Municipality set specific requirements for the construction of the work including, in addition to those already mentioned, a tradition/innovation relationship in the field of architectural design. The square, elevated with respect to the surrounding areas, is a hemicycle with a diameter of 150 meters, whose main axes are related to the urban plot of the ancient city and is the end of the Trieste waterfront and whose underground part serves as a public car park . The square extends for about 28,000 square meters at an altitude of about 5 meters above sea level. The design of the square is characterized by a semicircular part, outlined by the Crescent, and by a triangular one, which defines the "facing" to the south and south-east, divided by an axis connecting the seafront and the area of the Manfredi pier .
