    Puentedey is a mandatory stop if we want to get to know one of the most beautiful towns in Las Merindades. It will be included in the list of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain association in 2022. The enormous natural stone arch over the Nela River is its main emblem.

        Puentedey is built on a natural arch pierced by the Nela River, which enters the village through the Escomadero Canyon. Named thus (Bridge of God) by its first settlers, who attributed its location to a divine hand, it is a corner of singular beauty. Above a 15 m rock integrated into the landscape, rise the old houses, the church of San Pelayo, erected on 12th-century foundations, and the fortified palace of the Brizuela family, from the 15th century. Below, the bed of the Nela runs in a winding path until it merges with the Ebro, sometimes leaping like the La Mea waterfall. The village, with around 50 residents, was selected in 2022 to be included on the list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain.
