Dicker Turm (Georgsturm) of the Schaumburg
Dicker Turm (Georgsturm) of the Schaumburg
Mountain Biking Highlight
Recommended by 32 out of 35 mountain bikers
Location: Rinteln, Landkreis Schaumburg, Lower Saxony, Germany
At the beginning of the 20th century, only a ten meter high stump remained of the mighty, 30 m high keep, the "Thick Tower". Rebuilt in 1945, it survived several artillery hits on the east side, which can still be seen today. Climbing the tower is highly recommended. From the spacious viewing platform, visitors have a unique view to the east and west of the "wave crest" of the Weser Mountains.
To the west below the "Thick Tower" there was a round tower, the "Wittschieber", until the 19th century. Today there is a wide gap in the wall at this point.
