Joaquín Baldomero Fernández-Espartero Álvarez de Toro, better known as General Espartero, is a well-known character from the 19th century in the history of Spain.

Its importance will come during the first Carlist war (1833-1840) resolving the conflict in a political and military way. This allowed him to gain enormous prominence in the political, civil, military and economic life of the country until almost his death, the culmination of which will be the offer of the throne of Spain, which he rejected. His progressive ideas have left us a very important legacy that continues to this day in many of the foundations of the current State.
