Fonza beach is not too big, measuring about 95 meters and about ten meters wide. It is made up of fairly large but smooth and flat stones, all in all "comfortable", almost all of a beautiful gray and some beige. On the right of the beach it is possible that there is a layer of beached posidonia and on the sides, very large stones, which make these areas unsuitable for lying down in the sun.

A feature that distinguishes Fonza and which contrasts strongly with the stony bottom of the beach, is the bottom of the sea in front of it made up of very fine sand, like the not too distant Marina di Campo. This also stays very shallow for at least 20m from shore, allowing everyone to play and walk in the water.

On the right, the gulf of Marina di Campo which can just be glimpsed, while the island of Montecristo, almost in front of the beach, is about 45 kilometers away. Much closer is the Triglia rock, one of the "temples" of Elba diving.

The gulf is very wide, characterized by the rich Mediterranean scrub on the hills behind it and on the beautiful promontory on the right looking at the sea. Very well sheltered from the winds of the entire North quadrant, it is instead exposed to the south-southwest, therefore to the south-west winds and midday in particular.
