Since 2016, the Hamburg Archaeological Museum, in cooperation with volunteers, has been locating and examining the sites of crashed World War II fighter planes in the Harburg district. They are recorded by the archaeologists and entered into the internal geographic information system as a place of discovery.

The search for the crash site of an American bomber of the type "Consolidated B-24 Liberator" with the serial number 42-51481 began in spring 2021 with a photo from the Internet. With the support of the Seevetal community archivist, Arndt-Hinrich Ernst, the experts at the Archaeological Museum Hamburg were able to use various sources for their research.
