The hermitage of San Baudelio is located in an isolated spot two kilometers southeast of the small Soria town of Casillas de Berlanga, settling on a gentle slope that descends towards the course of the Escalote River.

The hermitage was part of a small monastery to which the documentary sources do not attribute a long survival. Over time it became the private property of several residents of Casillas.

The exterior appearance of the building does not announce the exceptionality of the singularity, originality and amazing architectural and pictorial marvels that the small hermitage of San Baudelio treasures (in this case the verb and the adjectives are appropriate).

Its assignment is, in the opinion of the researchers, clearly pre-Romanesque and with clear Mozarabic influences.

This hermitage is considered the most original jewel of Soria and Hispanic pre-Romanesque architecture. Traditional historiography has been defining the hermitage of San Baudelio de Casillas de Berlanga as "The Sistine Chapel of Mozarabic art".
