A three-aisled, flat-roofed Romanesque pillar basilica with a choir and three apses, probably built in the 12th century, was fundamentally rebuilt in 1858-60 by Ferdinand Robert Cremer. The nave was expanded to include the former choir, which is clearly visible in the triumphal arch that has been preserved and the open roof truss in this eastern part of the nave.

This is followed by a new choir bay with apse. The side aisles were extended to the east and the old nave was thoroughly renovated, with the arcades being raised. Despite some plans, the western entrance wall remained unchanged.

A (heavily restored and supplemented) baptismal font from the 13th century with four corner heads has survived from the medieval furnishings (lid 1966 by Klaus Balke). The corpus of the altar cross is from 1779, the crucifix of the crucifixion group from the 19th century is accompanied by Mary and John around 1700. The painting created in 1888 by Franz Sous (perhaps based on a design by Matthias Goebbels) has the purifying restoration from 1958- 64 left only the apse calotte (enthroned Christ with Mary and John) and the two choir walls.
