    The area around Widdersdorf was settled in the 8th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1109. Medieval life was shaped by the rulership of spiritual institutions. In Widdersdorf the center consisted of three large farms, all of which were owned by the church. The Cologne convent of St. Maria im Kapitol owned the courtyard and the Cologne Dominican convent of St. Gertrud owned the Mertenshof and the Tönneshof. The farms were leased to farmers, mostly at a profit. The tenants had a lot of prestige in the village, as most of the residents were small farmers or day laborers. The nobility owned less land than the church. For example, the Brassart family owned, hence the name Franz Brassart Str.,
