A trough bridge is a type of bridge in which the carriageway slab is not arranged above the side members, as in the case of a deck bridge, but between the main girders and is lower than the upper edge of the main girders. Trough bridges are characterized by a low overall height and are used, among other things, for railway overpasses or for overpassing pedestrian and cycle paths over streams or small rivers.
In southern Germany, trough bridges used to be bridges or
Bruck called channel.
