Historically, the Franciscan nunnery in felting had never gained much importance. In addition to a narrow data situation About the establishment of the institution, there is little meaningful literature. Also, it was perhaps too much in the shadow of the neighboring Protestant county Veldenz.
Relevant Moselle leaders, even special leaders on women's monasteries, mention - if at all - only marginally this monastic foundation. This is not justified, because the church with the former monastery complex and an early Romanesque bell tower forms an appealing and at the same time harmonious ensemble.
In 1455, Archbishop Jakob I von Sierck (1439-1456) transferred the Trier nunnery to the Third Rule of St. Francis of Assisi to "Viltzen" a hermitage. The so-called "gray sisters" also received the "Velenwingert". Other donors or endowments were not recorded in the first years after foundation and thereafter. The general misery in the convent did not change until more and more women from rural areas took the veil and, when entering the monastery with their inheritance, brought along land and / or vineyards.

The equipment of the church today comes mostly from the construction period from 1712 to 1721. To emphasize are: a large, newly formed Calvary group, probably a work of the Trierer Bildschnitzerschule from the second half of the 15th century, a pulpit with half-reliefs and the Organ brochure with carved wings and tendrils.
The church houses a barrel-vaulted burial place for 33 nuns, the northernmost probably this side of the Alps.
