Domburg was initially divided in the pastoral care of the population. West-Domburg was supplied from Westkapelle, Oost-Domburg from Oostkapelle. Around 1235, two independent parochial churches were finally built in Domburg, with the one from Oost-Domburg being moved to Aagtekerke in 1320, making the West-Domburg the only parish church in the town.

The oldest part of the church is the tower from the 14th century, which shows the typical structural features of the simple village Gothic style. A northern aisle was added to the nave during the 15th century. In 1848 the church was severely damaged by fire. In the course of the restoration, the nave and aisle were brought under one roof and the remains of the choir were demolished. A portal from the 15th century has been preserved on the north side. The patron saint was lost in the course of the Reformation and is no longer known.

The oldest part of the church originally dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is the 14th-century tower, which features the typical features of the simple village Scheldegotik. A northern aisle was added to the nave during the 15th century. In 1848 the church was severely damaged by fire. In the course of the restoration, the main and side aisles were brought under one roof and the remains of the choir were broken off. On the north side there is a portal from the 15th century. The Johannes Patrozinium was lost during the Reformation (Wikipedia).

Famous painter Piet Mondrian came 1908 for the first time to Domburg. Look for the sign explaining the transition of Mondrian's paintings from realistic to abstract between his 1909 and his 1914 later painting of the Domburg protestant church.
