The church was built in 1927-28, in place of a barrack church which replaced another destroyed during the Great War. The first renovation took place in 1966. The 1997 earthquake seriously damaged it, so much so that it was declared unusable. The project of another church to be erected in its place is elaborated, but in the end it is decided to recover it, restoring it.
