The church was built in the 8th century as a small chapel dedicated to St. Andrew. During the twelfth century it was rebuilt with a basilica plan on three naves, incorporating the previous structure which became the left aisle and a new apse and bell tower were built.
The church then underwent a change in its internal structure in the seventeenth century and took on the current one following the restoration of 1901 as can be read in a stone placed on the facade.
