The former prince-bishop's office building is located at the southern entrance to Oberscheinfeld. The town of Oberscheinfeld, to which Scharfeneck Castle belonged, was an exclave of the diocese of Bamberg from 1202 to 1802, which was penned in between the areas of the prince bishops of Würzburg, that of Schwarzenberg, that of Castell and that of Limpurg without any direct connection to other Bamberg territories - Speckfeld and such imperial knights. Initially, the property was managed from the castle, where the Bamberg servants moved into quarters. The castle was already dilapidated in the 16th century and the bailiffs moved down to the village. The castle was largely demolished around 1545 to obtain building material in order to build a new town hall from its stones. Only the Gothic keep remained on the Schloßberg.
