A vaulted double staircase with lions and four corner turrets decorate the front facade. On the first floor are the Council Chamber and the Vierschaere. These rooms were decorated with sculpted beam keys made in 1465 by Wouter van Inghen from Sluis, three of which have been preserved in situ (Jacob van Maerlant and a couple in the bath; King David with a harp and a sow being examined by two people; Mary with child and a doctor with two patients). A carillon of 39 bells has been installed in the tower, two of which date from the 14th century. Also striking are the city clock from 1459 and a sundial.

The six facade statues mainly represent counts of Flanders: from left to right. Philip of Alsace, Joan and Margaret of Constantinople (who is holding a model of the Saint John's Hospital), Philip of Chieti and finally Charles the Bold and Margaret of York (Charles is shown offering Margaret a wedding ring, their marriage was celebrated in Damme in 1468). These sculptures are by Gustaaf Pickery, son of Hendrik Pickery, whose statue of Jacob van Maerlant was placed on the square in front of the town hall in 1860.

To the right of the town hall, in the Huyse de Grote Sterre, are the tourist office, the Damme and Zwinstreek Visitors' Centre and the Uilenspiegel Museum.
