The garrison church or Heilig-Geist-Kirche is the third and smallest church building in Anklam alongside the two large town churches. The Heilig-Geist-Kirche was first mentioned in 1272. In the style of the time it was a brick Gothic building, but burned down in 1376. After the reconstruction, the brick building was again destroyed by fire in 1659. The church was rebuilt in 1738 in the baroque style for the Prussian garrison and served from then on as a garrison church. During the French occupation from 1806 to 1808 it was used as a field bakery.

From 1854 the building was no longer used for church purposes and was converted for residential use. In the Second World War, the garrison church was badly damaged and after the war it was rebuilt in 1955 with a slightly modified spire and prepared as a residential building for senior citizens. After reunification, the garrison church was restored.
